The Huntsville Patriot League is proud to offer recreational youth soccer this season. Youth soccer is an excellent sport to develop fitness, teamwork, coordination, and agility that will benefit children in all other aspects of life. New and returning players are welcome. Our program emphasizes fun, player and skill development, and an atmosphere intended to foster enjoyment of this great sport.
When Do We Play?
Practice Begins: Mid-August
Season Begins: After Labor Day (Week of 6th September)
Season Ends: Last week of October
City-wide Tournament Play (Optional): 1st Week of November
Age Requirements
Our soccer program has teams for players ages 4 through 13 years old. To determine the age division your child will play in, refer to the following age requirements:
Under 6, player has not reached their sixth (6th) birthday before August 1st of the season year.
Under 8, player has not reached their eighth (8th) birthday before August 1st of the season year.
Under 10, player has not reached their tenth (10th) birthday before August 1st of the season year.
Under 12, player has not reached their twelfth (12th) birthday before August 1st of the season year.
Under 14, player has not reached their fourteenth (14) birthday before August 1st of the season year.
Equipment
Your player will need to have the following equipment:
Soccer Ball - Inexpensive regulation balls can be purchased at all discount and sporting goods stores. The required ball size is age specific:
Size 3: Ages 4-7
Size 4: Ages 8-11
Size 5: Ages 12 and older
Shin Guards - For the safety of our players, shin guards are required for all practices and games.
Water Container - Nothing specific is required here, but all players will need to bring water to practice. We will be playing in the August Alabama sun!
Cleats (Optional, but recommended) - Soccer and baseball cleats are different – baseball cleats have a cleat on the toe of the shoe and are strictly prohibited. Referees will not allow a player to participate in a game wearing these type cleats. Often, parents opt to cut the toe cleat off of the Spring’s baseball cleats. Your coach can provide further guidance at your first practice.
Volunteers Needed!
To deliver the quality program you expect from us at HPL, we need volunteers. Some volunteer positions work directly with players and others do not.
Some positions conclude before games even start. Please consider coaching your child, volunteering to referee, or working as a team mom or dad. Previous soccer knowledge is not required to be a coach.
There will be multiple training opportunities for coaches, assistant coaches and interested parents during the season. Coaches are able to choose their own practice times.
If you are willing to help, we will work with your schedule any way we can! Every volunteer at our park is also a busy parent. If you have any questions, please contact the director.
